The music was loud, the dance floor was full and students filled the ballroom for BYU’s annual Valentine's Day dance.
Students got dressed up to celebrate the Valentine's season with dancing and time spent with loved ones. BYU student workers helped behind the scenes to make the event possible.
“My favorite part of planning this event is getting to work with so many different entities on campus and getting everyone involved. It really just feels like the BYU mission coming together, everyone's unified,” Carly Howell, the director of the student body and activities, said.
BYU’s "Sweethearts Swing" is a tradition that has brought students together year after year.
“I’ve heard that it’s been going on for as long as like 20 years. One of the couples here told us that when they were dating, they came to the sweetheart swing, so I know it’s been a long time,” Howell said.
After dance lessons from the BYU jazz swing club, students put their new skills to work and twirled across the floor.
The BYU Jazz Synthesis Band provided the music to keep the energy high and students on their feet. This romantic night has students excited for the holiday ahead.
“Valentine's Day season, it’s a season, it’s fun, it’s my favorite holiday, I love the idea of love and so I’m really excited for it,” Frog Doyle, a dance attendee, said.
While students took a break from the dance floor, they snacked from a variety of refreshments.
Pastries, sandwiches and fun drinks lined the tables.
“I tried the water, but I want to try the sinclairs. I haven’t got to them yet,” Doyle said.
Before returning home, students took their turn at the 360 photobooth, capturing digital memories that will last long after the night ended.
The "Sweetheart Swing" gave students a night full of fun and a break from midterms.
