A behind-the-scenes look into the BYU Film School equipment

A behind the scenes look into the BYU Film School equipment

BYU College of Fine Arts and Communications students make films using BYU-provided equipment including cameras, lights, filters and more.

BYU film students learn how to write scripts, use professional camera and lighting equipment, and edit their films with professional editing software.

Students in the film program get to express their creativity by producing short films based on various prompts.

"Essentially every single weekend we film a short film," Dal Jenkins, a BYU film student, said.

Jenkins also works as a film equipment receptionist.

One of this semester's prompts was, "Make a chase scene using contrast flat space and deep space," which Jenkins turned into a short film about a lobster hunt.

Jenkins demonstrated how to use various lighting equipment and showed the different cameras and lenses that students have access to.

At the end of the semester, students can submit their films to be showcased to the public at BYU's "First Look Film Festival." The festival will be held April 3 and 4 on West Campus.
