BYU outdoor rental shop offers affordable options for students and community

BYU outdoors unlimited is a retail, rental and repair shop where people can choose from a wide range of rental equipment to meet their needs.

"Our purpose is just to help the students and the people in the community get into the outdoors for the cheapest price possible. We offer a lot of gear from winter, summer, biking, hiking, camping, and we want to share what we love about the outdoors with everybody else, said Brock Fullmer, the Student Manager at BYU Outdoors Unlimited, said.

Some students are unaware of BYU's hidden gem. One student was pleasantly surprised by what she discovered.

"Today was my first day coming here to rent something from BYU outdoors unlimited, I didn't know it existed," said Sadie Mull, a student and customer at Outdoors Unlimited. "I am honestly super jazzed about this place because I didn't know you could rent bikes for so cheap, so we'll definitely be doing more rides up the canyon.

Students say that renting outdoor equipment is a good alternative to a long term financial commitment.

I love being outside but I'm not like the most adventurous, so this is a good way to get out of my comfort zone--I don't have to like commit and buy something," Mull said.

"It's super nice knowing that if there's something that I need, outdoors unlimited provides it, and that it's super cheap, Fullmer said.

Aside from the financial benefit of outdoors unlimited, students agree that both exercising and going outside positively impact their mental health.

"I'm studying psychology so I'm always thinking about mental health, and the benefits from getting outside and being able to exercise, I don't think can be compared to anything else," Fullmer said. "I think it's super useful for students to be able to be in the outdoors and disconnect for a little bit.

They just help my mental health so much, like I love getting outside and being active and connecting with nature and connecting with my body, connecting with friends--so super helpful for mental health, Mull said.

Outdoors unlimited is not just a rental shop--they also host day and week trips along with other activities.

We do like rafting, a bunch of hikes, we partner with UVU and do some climb nights, which is super fun," said Fullmer

Fullmer encouraged students to visit the shop and enjoy the outdoors.

"Just come check it out, people are always surprised at the gear that we rent, and so just come into the shop anytime and see what we have, I think you'll be surprised," he said.

BYU Outdoors Unlimited makes sure that the outdoors are accessible to everyone.
