THE ANATOMY OF AN AD

1. Ad Size

The ad's finished size.

2. Bleed Zone

Graphic elements or color that you would like to extend to the edge of the ad need to continue out 1/8". Printing equipment can move the page slightly and the extra 1/8" accommodates this movement.

3. Margin

Keeping text within this area ensures it will appear without being cut off or too close to the edge.

4. Image

Use high resolution photos and graphics (300 pixels per inch for magazines, 180 pixels per inch for the newspaper).

5. Color

Use a mixture of light and dark colors to add contrast. Only use process colors (CMYK). Avoid spot colors, but if necessary, convert.
