A quick Brigham Young University student snatched up the @brighamyounguniversity TikTok handle — before BYU had the chance to.
Hannah Anderson, a junior in the advertising program, posted a TikTok Wednesday afternoon. The video shows her dancing to “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind & Fire with the caption “When you get the username of your college before they can.” The TikTok blew up overnight and had more than a million views by noon on Thursday.
Anderson’s post inspired students from universities and junior colleges across the country to do the same.
Campuses who have seen their username scooped up by students include Utah Valley University, Rice University, and the University of Missouri.
Hundreds of TikTok users have commented on Anderson’s post, encouraging her to hold the account for ransom — and to demand either a monetary payout or, at the very least, free tuition.
