Cougars in the pros: Taysom Hill continues to be key for Saints

BYU alumni in the NFL and other sports leagues showed up once again this week, highlighted by Taysom Hill’s 102 total yards of offense as he continues to play a key role for the New Orleans Saints.

Football

Quarterback Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints went two-for-two on passing for 48 yards and rushed the ball seven times for 54 yards in a dominant 38-3 win against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hill’s skill and tenacity running the ball led commentator Chris Collinsworth to call him “one of the most intimidating runners that there is in the league.”

Hill’s running highlights included a hurdle over a Tampa Bay defender that reminded fans of a similar jump against Texas during his BYU days.

Harvey Langi of the New York Jets had 10 tackles, nine of which were solo, in a close win over the New England Patriots 30- 27. It was his first action since week two of the season.

Safety Daniel Sorensen of the Kansas City Chiefs had a season-high 10 tackles, including eight solo, in a 33-31 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Linebacker Fred Warner of the San Francisco 49ers had 12 tackles, including eight solo, in a 34-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers. After the game, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers called Warner “possibly the best middle linebacker in the game.”

Cornerback Michael Davis had four solo tackles and one pass defended for the Los Angeles Chargers in a 31-26 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jamaal Williams did not play for the Green Bay Packers this week because he was deemed a high-risk player after being in contact with a player who tested positive for COVID-19.

Basketball

Jimmer Fredette and the Shanghai Sharks beat the Fujian Sturgeons 117-93 this week. Fredette finished with 23 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Fredette also announced on social media that he has signed a deal to become a brand ambassador for Singapore-based athletics brand, Rigorer.

Brandon Davies had six points, four rebounds, one block and four assists for Barcelona in a 103-67 win over Alba Berlin.

Elijah Bryant of Maccabi Tel Aviv had a Euroleague career high of 22 points to go along with three rebounds, four assists, one steal and four 3-pointers in a 91-89 loss win against Anadolu Efes.

Eric Mika of club Partizan BC had two rebounds, one steal and one block in a 78-63 EuroCup win over Zadar.

Zac Seljaas had 16 points, five rebounds and two assists for BC Prievidza in a 78-72 loss against BKM Lucenec.

Yoeli Childs continues to gain hype with just a week left before the NBA Draft on Nov. 18. According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, Childs has interviewed with 29 of the 30 NBA teams and is projected to go early or midway through the second round.

Golf

Mike Weir tied for 36th place at the Charles Schwab Championship at the Phoenix Country Club on Nov. 6.
