“Land of the free, home of the brave,” has a whole new meaning for the community of North Ogden. The city morns the death of Mayor Brent Taylor.

Major Taylor was killed on November 3rd in Afghanistan. The city is now covered in different tributes to Mayor Taylor, but one that stands out is the massive, 150 foot flag flying in Coldwater Canyon.

The Follow the Flag organization helped make it all possible. After a few days of planning, more than a hundred volunteers helped carry the flag up the canyon.

“It’s really amazing, I mean. It’s overwhelming to see all the help that was there,” said Zach Lloyd.

Lloyd was one of the many volunteers who helped carry the flag.

“People had that in the back of their minds, for his wife and kids to do it in remembrance of him, that was the overall spirit there,” said Lloyd.

The red, white, and blue colors can be seen all the way from the freeway.

Ryan Stalling was the lead rigger in helping hang the flag. “A gesture of this size to do for someone, he had a huge impact on this community, to go and put himself in harms way,” he said.

Stalling helped hang the 400 pound flag, the perfect tribute for a man so many loved. “It represents our freedom and soldiers that have died and shed blood to keep us safe a protect us.”
