BYU women’s soccer alumni Taylor Isom and Nadia Gomes were selected 14th and 23rd in the National Women’s Soccer League draft Thursday.
Isom was the first true defender chosen in the draft, going to the newly formed Utah Royals. The team will play at Rio Tinto Stadium, located in Isom’s hometown of Sandy.

Both Isom and Gomes started every game last season for the Cougars, contributing valuable minutes and leading the charge on their respective sides of the field.
This marks the second year in a row multiple BYU players have been selected in the draft, with NWSL Rookie of the Year Ashley Hatch taken second by the NC Courage and Michele Vasconcelos taken 11th by the Chicago Red Stars.
Isom and Gomes will report on Feb. 19 for preseason training camps and the 2018 regular season will begin the weekend of Mar. 24-25.
