Hopeful singers and musicians lined the sidewalks outside the Utah County Courthouse on Aug. 23 looking for a shot to make it onto the hit TV show American Idol. The show visited Utah before, but this time it returned to Utah County.

For Lora Burton, auditioning for American Idol was always a dream that was almost lost when the show wrapped up after its 15th season in early 2016.

But now ABC is reviving the show for a 16th season, which will premiere in early 2018.

“American Idol has been something that I’ve always wanted to do, and then when they took it away right before I was old enough to do it, it was sad, but it was super exciting when it came back so close to where I live.” Burton said while waiting in line for her chance.

For Hunter Widvey, American Idol is a chance to share her talents.

“Singing is super fun,” Widvey said. “I love performing in front of people and sharing my gifts.”

Auditions for the show will continue today in Provo until 5 p.m.
