BYU basketball announced Tuesday that Jahshire Hardnett has signed a National Letter of Intent and will play for BYU beginning this upcoming season.

The 6-foot guard is transferring from Chipola College in Marianna, Florida, and will have three years of eligibility at BYU.

Hardnett averaged 13 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals at Chipola, which plays in the Panhandle Conference in the NJCAA.

He also shot 56 percent from the field and 44 percent from 3-point range.

Hardnett received All-Panhandle Conference First Team honors and was named the Panhandle Conference’s Freshman of the Year last season.

The left-handed Gulfport, Mississippi, native will look to join the ranks of Nick Emery, TJ Haws and Elijah Bryant at the guard position.

The Cougars are still waiting to see if forward Eric Mika will rejoin the team or remain in the NBA Draft. Mika’s deadline to withdraw from draft consideration is May 24.
