The BYU women’s basketball team fell to Loyola-Marymount University 77-74 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

“We lost the game tonight in the first half,” BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said. “We didn’t come out with the intensity we needed. We needed to execute better. There are some things we need to work on to get better offensively and defensively.”

After a slow start, BYU found itself fighting to keep up and as the Cougars picked up the pace, the Lions answered every basket with one of their own.

Cassie Broadhead scored 25 points and Makenzi Pulsipher added 20. Kristine Nielson also scored in the double digits with 10 points.

Kalani Purcell played strong defensively with 14 defensive rebounds (17 total) and four steals.

With four minutes left, Cassie Broadhead made two free-throws to tie up the game, sending the game into overtime.

The Cougars couldn’t keep up with the Lions’ strong offense throughout overtime. The Lions sealed their win with two free-throws.

The Cougars play Gonzaga on Thursday in Spokane, Washington.
