SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake City Police Department is increasing the number of patrol officers available in hopes of cutting down on response times.
KSL-TV reports that this fall Police Chief Mike Brown added officers to the patrol unit, bringing the total from 125 for 175, and there are plans to make the total 190 in the coming months.
Brown says now help is arriving faster and there has been a recent trend of decreasing crime in the city.
The staffing changes come after KSL previously reported that low-priority crimes had response times of multiple hours. For example, an earlier analysis of hundreds of calls to the department showed theft calls often waited for two to three hours before officers arrived at the scene.
