Provo baker to compete on Food Network’s “Cake Wars”

Pete Tidwell, owner and head baker of The Mighty Baker in Provo, will compete in an episode of Food Network’s “Cake Wars” that will air on Monday, August 1 at 7 p.m. MDT.

Tidwell, a BYU alumnus, will be one of four bakers competing to see whose Halo video game-inspired cake creation will be featured at the Halo World Championship. The winner of “Cake Wars” also wins $10,000.

“Cake Wars” is hosted by “Mean Girls” star Jonathan Bennett. The judges are pastry chefs Ron-Ben Israel and Waylynn Lucas, with guest judge Larry Hyrb, Microsoft’s director of programming.

Tidwell opened The Mighty Baker in November 2015. In a previous interview with The Universe, Tidwell said he watched Food Network cake shows like “Cake Boss,” “Ace of Cakes” and other cake competitions when he was in high school and college.

Tidwell’s bakery creates custom wedding cakes, caters desserts for events and offers daily bakery creations at their store on 500 North in Provo.
