BYU softball took on the University of Texas this weekend, winning on Friday but losing back-to-back games on Saturday.

The Cougars started out strong in the first inning with a Ashley Thompson’s fourth home run of the season.

“Ashley got us off to a great start and had quality at bats all game,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We got off to a good start and played solid defense to grind out a tough win.”

The Longhorns scored in the bottom of the third off a single, but strong pitching from McKenna Bull prevented any other hits and the game ended at 3-1.

On Saturday the Cougars were shutout 5-0 and 7-0.

“We had a tough day today,” Eakin said. “In the first game, Olivia Sanchez pitched a good game, but we played poorly on defense. We had no hitting and poor base running. In game two, Texas just flat out beat us.”

BYU returns home on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Southern Utah at 5 p.m. MDT and 7 p.m. MDT. The games will be televised on BYUtv and broadcast on BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143. Live stats will also be available on the schedule page.
