The excitement at South Field was tangible as friends, family and others gathered to show support for the BYU women’s rugby program on Saturday afternoon.

“It was so neat to see cohesion between generations,” said senior Amber Ah Sue. “We’re so proud of them to know where they came from and where they’ve brought us.”

The final score was 67 to 14 for the current group of Cougars, but senior captain Jordan Gray said the game was more important than the final score.

“We’ve been waiting for this for fifteen years,” Gray said. “It’s really amazing that we could share this with our alumni because they’re the ones that got us here.”

Head coach Tom Waqa said he was happy with the way everyone played and echoed his player’s sentiments about their forerunners.

“I was so excited,” Waqa said. “We have our honored guests, the alumni, to play with and we were happy to share the field with them and recognize their hard work and what they did for the program.”

The Cougars’ next home game is March 12 against the SLC Vipers.
