Kidnap victim Elizabeth Smart’s next book will be a guide to self-empowerment.

Smart is an activist and author of a best-selling memoir about her kidnapping as a teenager. She has an agreement with St. Martin’s Press for “Hope Empowered,” in which she’ll draw on her experiences helping others recover from traumatic events.

The publisher said the new book is scheduled for spring 2017.

Smart’s book “My Story” was published in 2013. It recounts her 2002 abduction from her Salt Lake City home when she was 14 years old.

Smart was held for nine months and was repeatedly sexually assaulted and threatened with death. She later was found and rescued.

She has since started the Elizabeth Smart Foundation to protect children and educate them about violent and sexual crimes.
