BYU will welcome Elder Neil L. Andersen of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Quorum of the Twelve as the featured speaker of the Education Week Devotional on Tuesday, August 18.
Elder Andersen is expected to speak on this year’s Education Week theme: “Lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul.”
The words from Hebrews 6:18–19 will be the underlying focal point of classes and activities Aug. 17–21. The devotional will mark the fifth time Elder Andersen has spoken at BYU.
Elder Andersen graduated from BYU with his bachelor’s degree in 1975 and earned an MBA degree from Harvard University in 1977. He made his professional career in Tampa, Florida working in advertising, real estate development and healthcare.
Elder Andersen has led the work of the Church in southern Brazil, Mexico and Central America and served in an area presidency overseeing the work of the Church in Western Europe. He was named a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1993 and an apostle in 2009. He and his wife, Kathy Williams Andersen, are the parents of four children.
The devotional will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 11:00 a.m. in the Marriott Center and is open to the public at no charge.
