Rodeos have been a staple of Utah culture since not long after the pioneers settled in the Salt Lake Valley. This summer there are more than 40 rodeos taking place in Utah, several of which are not far from Provo.
One of these is the annual Strawberry Days Rodeo that first began in 1921. More than 8,000 people attend throughout the three nights the rodeo runs. Will Rasmussen has been the rodeo announcer for the past 15 years and sees Utah County as an audience full of enthusiasm and appreciation for the event.
'The audience is tremendous,' Rasmussen said. 'The crowd that comes out is just so lively and big and loud. They participate, and they just have a great time. It's a full family event.'
Special events at the rodeos include barrel racing, bull riding, calf roping, bareback riding and others.
