The hunt for modest yet trendy summer staples has gotten a little bit easier with the influx of local and online shops, boutiques and fashion bloggers aimed for a Latter-day Saint demographic.

Here are four places to find modest wardrobe pieces this summer and modesty tips from local fashion pros.

1. Called to Surf

Called to Surf is located in the Provo Riverwoods. It provides all types of summer apparel for men and women but is especially known for its unique swimwear.

The shop carries one-piece swimwear from brands including Nanette Lepore and Kortnie Jeane.

“The one-piece is back in style, more than ever,” said Brianna Bailey, author of fashion website Blossoming Blonde. “Take a look in popular style magazines —there are tons of one-piece ads, so soak up the trend.”

Called to Surf also has a variety of dresses for under $30 and accessories under $25. This includes a $21 version of the Birkenstock-inspired sandal, a summer wardrobe staple, according to Vogue Magazine.

Bailey suggests trying the “three-piece rule.” Take something that needs an extra cover-up, such as a tank top, and pair it with a cute chambray shirt or jacket, and necklace.

“You will look more complete than just wearing a tank top,” she said.

2. Piper & Scoot

Piper & Scoot is an online women’s clothing company. It carries all types of summer apparel and is currently bursting with floral maxi dresses, patterned pencil skirts and flowing blouses.

“We’ve been able to search designers worldwide and create a shop that offers stylish and modest clothing,” said Kylee Middleton, co-owner of Piper & Scoot. “Making a commitment to cover up shouldn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy all of the exciting trends and fun styles that are popular… (but) it requires creativity.”

Piper & Scoot has a variety of blouses and dresses that don’t need altering to make them modest. However, for those instances when an item need something extra for more cover-up, Middleton offers advice.

“The answer to making things modest doesn’t always have to be (a) white tee. You can mix things up and pair a sleeveless tank with another printed blouse underneath, or take advantage of fun cardigans.”

3. Kingdom & State

Kingdom & State is a European-inspired ladies clothing brand that originated out of London, according to its website. It offers a variety of trousers, peplum blouses and modest dresses. It has an online store, and its items can be found at retailers including the BYU Store, Amara Day Spa and Boutique and Lola Bella Boutique.

The clothing company is known for eye-catching prints and patterns. Its mix-and-match tankinis are popularly known as trendy swimsuit alternatives for full coverage style, explained Abrea DelGrosso, Provo resident.

“I love Kingdom & State because it’s unique and fashion forward, yet modest and affordable. Their swimsuits make me feel so confident in my skin, and I constantly get compliments on them,” she said.

4. Clad & Cloth Boutique

Clad & Cloth Boutique is an all-online store that promises to supply its shoppers with “on-trend, modest, quality apparel … to bring the brands and fashion that (shoppers will) feel confident and comfortable in,” according to its website.

Comfort and modesty is key at Clad & Cloth, and the store carries a variety of cotton dresses, tunics and jumpers. Its summer collection features pieces with soft neutrals and earth tones, including vegan sandals.

Alayna Lauren, author of fashion website AlaynaLauren.com, summarized the “golden rule” for finding modest summer staples.

“If you don’t feel completely comfortable when you’re trying something on, don’t get it! Only choose the pieces that you don’t have to think twice about.”
