Real Salt Lake gave up a tough loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on May 30. Elias Vasquez’s miscommunication allowed Vancouver forward Cristian Techera in the penalty box with an open shot on goal.

Vancouver forward Gershon Koffie started the scoring in the 36th minute with a screamer from distance. RSL’s Javier Morales added a free kick in the 45th minute to tie it at 1-1.

The stunner came in the 79th minute when Vasquez tried to lay the ball to RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando, but Techera stole the ball and put it in the open goal.

In its third game in eight days, RSL tried a different formation but wasn’t able to come home with a draw or win.

Real Salt Lake returns home for a rivalry game against the Colorado Rapids June 7.
