Although Utah Valley University is just 10 minutes away from South Field Stadium, the ride home for the Wolverine rugby team was a long one after suffering a 109-0 loss to the Cougars.

“I think that we started off slow, but once we got going, we got into a flow,” junior fly-half Jonathan Linehan said. “We were able to keep that flow throughout the rest of the game.”

UVU came out playing strong defense and held the Cougars scoreless in the first 10 minutes of the game. At the 11-minute mark junior Steven Davies muscled in a try, giving the Cougars the first points of the match. Davies’ try began the scoring exhibit put on by the Cougars.

The Cougars went into halftime leading 59-0.

The Cougars continued to pile on the points in the second half, ending the game past the 100-point mark with a 109-point victory.

The No. 1-ranked Cougars next face Utah State University Saturday at 1 p.m. on South Field.
