BYU volleyball shutout in loss to UC Santa Barbara

No. 4 BYU men’s volleyball lost in straight sets to No. 8 UC Santa Barbara Friday night in California.

Three kills by Jake Langlois put BYU on the scoreboard tying the first set 3-3. Service errors from both Tim Dobbert and Langlois gave Santa Barbara a 13-11 lead, but a service ace from Matt Underwood put BYU ahead 14-13. Kills from Langlois, Michael Hatch and Dobbert kept the score tied 18-18, but the first set ultimately went to Santa Barbara 25-21.

The second set started tied 3-3 again with kills by Dobbert and Langlois. Errors from Langlois put Santa Barbara ahead 9-7, and from there it took off, leading 18-11. More kills from Hatch and Langlois closed the gap, but Santa Barbara held on to the lead and won the set 25-18.

Kills from Langlois, Hatch and Underwood started the third set with the Cougars leading 4-3. A block from Kiril Meretev and Joe Grosh kept the set tied 6-6, and the score stayed tied from there with kills by Underwood and Langlois. BYU fought harder this set but could not pull through as Santa Barbara finished the set 25-22 and won the match 3-0.
