The Salt Lake City airport may become more missionary-minded with a terminal redesign that would better accommodate large groups who welcome home LDS missionaries inside the airport.

Missionary airport homecomings often become large-scale events that make it hard for other travelers to navigate areas near the baggage carousels.

SLC airport spokesperson Barbara Gann recently told The Daily Herald that the airport may undergo a layout redesign within the next five years to be more missionary-friendly.

The missionary homecoming is unique to Utah — but not entirely. One young woman proposed to the missionary she was waiting for in the Oklahoma airport in March 2013. This flash mob proposal did not surprise the missionary; he pulled a ring out of his backpack and proposed right back. The flash mob performed a choreographed routine and attracted much attention inside the airport.
