Exit sandman

Last year the BYU men’s volleyball team had a heart-breaking exit from the NCAA tournament concluding the career of one of the school’s all-time greats.

The 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) player of the year, Taylor Sander, has graduated leaving big shoes to fill but players and coaches say they can fill in the gaps together.

“You’re not gonna replace him man for man,” BYU assistant coach Rob Nielson said. “He’s a once-in-a-lifetime, once-in-a-generation player, but we feel like with enough people stepping up their game and improving that we can be just as competitive as a team.”

The cougars have a solid squad of starters returning this season with high hopes of another consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. Head Coach Chris Mcgown’s crew tip off tonight in an exhibition match against UVU in the Smith Fieldhouse.
