Fans packed the stands for the 14th straight sellout crowd at Rio Tinto Stadium as RSL beat the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday night 2-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium. This is the seventh consecutive year that RSL will be attending the playoffs.

Both goals came in the first half. Ned “Nedinho” Grabavoy hit his second goal of the regular season in the 24th minute of play. Sebastian Velasquez got in his first regular season goal in the 29th minute after a corner kick from six yards out.

“We came out here to make a statement, and on top of that we are at home,” Velasquez said. “We always need to get a win at home.”

RSL coach Jeff Cassar promised players earlier in the season that he would shave his head if RSL clinched the playoffs.

“I would do this ten out of ten times if we are making the playoffs,” Cassar said about shaving his head.

A bald Coach Cassar and the rest of the RSL team will be playing their next match against the Portland Timbers in Portland on Oct. 17.
