The BYU men’s soccer team is set to play in the first round of the Premier Development League playoffs this Saturday after a seven-year drought.

“It’s been phenomenal,” said BYU head coach Chris Watkins. “For us to do this well in a league like this is remarkable.”

It’s been a long time since the Cougars were involved in a tournament with MLS-caliber players, but Watkins says his team is ready for the challenge.

“We’ve rested some people over the last couple weeks, so we expect to be at full strength and play the best game of our season,” Watkins said.

The Cougars (7-4-3) face off against Ventura County Fusion this Saturday at Peter Johann Soccer Field in Las Vegas. Kickoff is at 9 p.m.

“Every year they have at least four [players] drafted into the MLS league,” Watkins said. “So this is a team loaded with talent. But we’ve beat some talented teams already, so we go in confidently but knowing that they’re dangerous from every position.”

Tickets for the game are $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for students/military and $9.00 for youth (under 12).
