Equally divine

153

Many women are fighting for the priesthood, more authority in church callings and many other things that they feel are unfairly given only to men. While it may seem like the church is discriminating against women, it is not. It is ridiculous and almost blasphemous to proclaim such things about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Different, but equally divine, roles are given to male and female.

The issue of the priesthood drives many women away from the church, believing that the church places the male gender above the female gender. President Gordon B. Hinckley touched on this issue. He said, “The men hold the priesthood, yes. But my wife is my companion. In this Church the man neither walks ahead of his wife nor behind his wife but at her side. They are co-equals in this life in a great enterprise.”

The desire to hold the priesthood is a very real and understandable want. However, as women, we must accept and magnify our glorious calling as daughters of a Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Mother. We are divine. We are important. We are women.
