Not many restaurants can boast a 4.5 star Yelp rating with 53 reviews. El Gallo Giro is able to do just that, thanks to its fresh food and low prices.
“As a Hispanic, I thought it was pretty authentic compared to Mexican restaurants back in L.A.,” said Lily Berganza, a Los Angeles native of Mexican descent. “I actually think Gallo Giro was a little better, though not as cheap. But definitely authentic.”
Price range:
At $1.55 each for a street taco, the restaurant competes with a lot of lower-priced Mexican chains. A full combination plate with an entrée and two sides runs for $7–$8, a competitive price in the area.
Specialty dishes:
Owner Zulema Ortega, from Chihuahua, Mexico, said the most popular entrée item on the menu is called The Rock.
“It’s like a steak, chorizo and chicken fajita, only it’s cooked on a real lava rock instead of a skillet,” Ortega said.
Additionally, El Gallo Giro’s homemade drinks are an everyday favorite.
“Making the horchata especially is a process,” she said. “It takes like three days to make a batch, between soaking … and preparing it all.”
Hours & location:

What the owner says:
“We make everything here from scratch, every day: tortillas, salsas, juices and everything else,” Ortega said.
She said her food is authentic Mexican, from both the north and south of Mexico, where she and her husband are from.
