BYU student  and mixed-martial artist Westin Wilson (2-1) will step into the ring against Chris Flores (3-4) of Las Vegas on March 1  as the co-main event for Tuff-N-Uff: Mayhem in Mesquite 4 in Mesquite, Nev.

“This fight is important because it’s the Utah vs. Nevada card in the top amateur league in the world,” said Wilson, a public relations major expected to graduate April 2015. “It’ll be my last amateur fight before going pro being that everything goes well in the fight. I have a few pro offers which is exciting.”

Wilson, of Stafford, Va., is not the first from BYU to step into the ring of ground and pound. Former BYU football star Jan Jorgensen has been fighting locally with a record of 6-1-0 according to tapology.com. UFC star Chael Sonnen wrestled for the Cougars before Title IX led to the cutting of the wrestling program.
