The Lighting of the Riverwoods event will take place Friday, Nov. 15, at the Shops at Riverwoods.

The annual event aims to bring residents of Utah Valley together to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.

“We want members of the community to come and celebrate with each other,” Lawrence Packer, general manner of the Shops at Riverwoods, said in a press release. “This event is performed by the community, for the community.”

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a countdown to the lighting of all the holiday lights adorning the Riverwoods. Chad Lewis, a former BYU and NFL tight end, will lead the countdown to this lighting and announce the arrival of Santa Claus.

Additional entertainment will be provided by music and dance groups, including Alex Boye, BYU Women’s Chorus, Brenda Burch and the Utah Valley Regional Ballet.

Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the activities that have been arranged for the event. Free carriage rides, face painting and art strolls will be available, and a full firework show will close the event at 9 p.m.

BYU students are excited by an activity that is different from what a Friday night typically offers.

“I would consider going just because it’s something out of the ordinary,” said Greg Fitzpatrick, an economics major from Mission Viejo, Calif. “It’s always fun to see live music and should be a good time.”
