‘Tale of Peter Rabbit’ author to be featured in House of Learning lecture Thursday

The Harold B. Lee Library will continue its House of Learning lecture series on Oct. 3 with a presentation about the life of Beatrix Potter, who is best known as the author of “The Tale of Peter Rabbit.”

Leslee Thorne-Murphy, an assistant professor in the BYU English Department, will present the lecture titled “From Peter Rabbit to Herdwick Sheep: The Life and Art of Beatrix Potter.”

“Professor Thorne-Murphy is one of the Victorian literature experts in the English department at BYU and is very familiar with the Victorian lit collection here in Special Collections,” ┬ásaid Maggie Kopp, curator of European books for the L. Tom Perry Special Collections. “Even though Potter published her books after the Victorian period, she got her artistic training as a young woman during the Victorian era.”

The lecture will begin at 2 p.m. in the library auditorium on the first floor. Attendance is open to the public and free.
