“It’s difficult to leave a post as substantive and dynamic as this, and I have enjoyed every minute” Bell said. “It’s simply time to take care of my family’s long-term financial needs.”

Gov. Gary Herbert said in a news release that Bell has been a key part of several of the administration’s initiatives, especially in education, and will be missed. “This is not an administration of caretakers or ribbon cutters,” the governor said. “Greg Bell has worked incredibly hard and sacrificed a great deal.”

Bell has worked in public service for 23 years. He was elected to the Utah Senate in 2002 and was also a mayor and city councilman in Farmington. In the private sector, he has worked in law. Bell is particularly well-known for his work with the Boy Scouts of America having served as a president of the Farmington Bay District. He and his wife live in Fruit Heights, Utah.
