Provo’s downtown area is constantly growing and changing with the opening of new restaurants, businesses and unique shops. The Choc’late Mousse on University Avenue is the newest addition and provides a unique, upscale dessert experience both students and locals will love.

Owners Jonathan and Casi Bludorn are from Lubbock, Texas, where they visited the original location of The Choc’late Mousse and wanted to open one themselves. They moved to Provo in June so that Casi could attend law school, and they decided it was the perfect time and place to open their own pie bar.

“We love being a part of the downtown here,” Casi said. “It has a good vibe, and it’s a great culture for our business.”

The Choc’late Mousse officially opened on Aug. 14, with a soft opening for friends and family the week before. The interior of the store incorporates beautiful dark-wood features and elegant furniture, with chic chandeliers that give the place a stately New York feel.

“We thought people might be scared from the upscale decor and think the nice interior would equate to expensive desserts,” Jonathan said. “But we wanted to create a nice environment for people to hang out and relax, and our prices are actually very competitive.”

The pie bar offers a variety of flavors and options, with everything made from scratch every day. First patrons choose what size dessert they would like, each with fun names such as “Piefait” or “Pietini.” Next they pick between four types of crust and then choose between 8–12 different flavors of pie fillings. Most flavors are gluten-free, and a gluten-free crust is provided upon request. The establishment also offers full pies, or “Pie Packs,” where all parts of the dessert are put into jars so customers can make it at home.

Matthew Hunt, a student living just south of BYU campus, said, “I love the atmosphere at The Choc’late Mousse — it’s upscale yet comfortable. I tried the ‘Pieflight,’ which was great because it gave me the chance to try a small portion of almost all of the flavors. The mousse was fantastic, and they have a great assortment of flavors. It’s a really great place for dates or group outings.”

The Choc’late Mousse is open Monday–Saturday from 12 noon to 11 p.m., and is located at 155 N. University Ave. in Provo.
