BYU soccer wins redux against Seahorses

BYU soccer won its second game against the Southern CA Seahorses 2-1 Thursday night and is very happy with its performance.

At half time the score was tied 0-0. Both teams had four shots on goals in the first half but were not able to score.

Blake Frischkenecht scored the first goal in the second half, with an assist from Doug Clark. This was Frischkenecht’s second goal of the season. The Cougars continued to put pressure on the Seahorses’ defense and maintained control of the ball. Just minutes after their first goal, Pedro Vasconcelos scored the second goal on a through ball played by Trevor Henderson. The Seahorses continued to attack the BYU goal and were able to score one goal. BYU focused and was able maintain control of the game with a final score of 2-1.

After the win against the Seahorses, head coach Chris Watkins said, “Our defense continues to improve. Blake has really proven to be a great goal scorer, just what we are in need of.”

The LA Misioneros will host the Cougars on June 29 at 6 p.m. BYU’s last game against the Misioneros was played on May 31; the Misioneros won 1-0. BYU’s loss was attributed to a defensive mistake and not being able to score. The Cougars have shown great improvements and have learned from the mistakes made in previous games.
