Suspect Arrested for Two Counts of Sexual Battery at Provo Recreation Center

Provo police investigators responded to a call at the Provo Recreation Center on an sexual battery allegation on Saturday, June 8, at approximately 4:50 p.m.

A 13-year-old girl told a lifeguard that a stranger touched her inappropriately while she was swimming in the pool. Later, a second victim came forward and stated that the same man had a touched her in the same manner.

The two young victims identified the alleged suspect, who was later booked into the Utah County Jail for two counts of sexual battery. Since the arrest, two more girls came forward with similar reports.

Police reports state the suspecct said he had been unsuccessful with dating recently, which he said prompted him to act as he did.

Lt. Matt Siufanua told the Daily Herald that the girls responded exactly as they should have by going immediately to a lifeguard.

“Teach your children not to talk to strangers,” Siufanua said. “There is no reason why a 38-year-old man should be having a casual conversation with a 13-year-old girl if he doesn’t know her.”

The Provo police believe there may be more victims. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding what happened to these girls or anyone else to call Provo police detectives at 801-852-6210.
