BYU softball will take on Utah in the Deseret First Duel

BYU softball takes on its in-state rival Utah this Saturday in the Deseret First Duel. The Cougars have won 15 of its last 16 games and closed out their regular season. They swept Saint Mary’s in a four game series last Friday and Saturday, securing the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Championship.

Junior Katie Manuma helped BYU win the PCSC championship by hitting 5 for 5 and two RBIs against Saint Mary’s on Saturday. She also received her first PCSC player of the week award.

Junior pitcher Tori Almond also led the team defensively in the two doubleheaders against Saint Mary’s. She had her first career no-hitter in game two on Saturday and received her second PCSC Pitcher of the Week award for the season.

The Cougars will face the Utes who have had a tough season in the Pac-12 conference. They hold an overall record of 24-29-1 and 17-17 in conference play. Jackie Sweet and Kate Dickman are two of Utah’s leading batters. Sweet is hitting a .363, and Dickman is at .327. Sweet currently leads the team in hits, runs scored and home runs.
