“Hello, Dolly!” centers around Dolly Levi, a meddling matchmaker and widow, and her plans to find a match for herself. While it first premiered on Broadway in 1964 and subsequently won 10 Tony awards, the popularity of this musical still endures today. Jerry Elison, the director of the production, said he believes audience members will enjoy this entertaining and charming musical.

“I want the audience to have a good time and leave singing the songs from the show,” Elison said.

Although the plot is originally adpated from a British play, the musical is set in early 20th-century New York City. Elison said an important message taught in the musical is to be happy with life.

“Life goes on, and you just have to find your own happiness in life,” Ellison said. “That is what Dolly is trying to do, and that is what she does.”

Scera President and CEO Adam Robertson said they decided to close the indoor season at the Scera Theater with “Hello, Dolly!” because of popular demand.

“People love it because it is full of personality, show-stopping dance numbers, happy songs and fabulous characters to laugh with and root for,” Robertson said.
