ST. GEORGE, Utah — Lea Garner shot a final round 77 (+5) to lead the Cougars to a fifth place finish Tuesday at the Entrada Classic.

BYU shot a final round 313 (+25) and 54-hole total 920 (+56) to finish seven strokes behind fourth place CSU Fulerton (+49) and 32 strokes behind tournament champion No. 44 Wisconsin (+24). Their fifth place finish in the 15-team tournament at the Entrada at Snow Canyon marks their best finish of the season.

“A lot of positives,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “The girls hung in there well. We know what we need to do better. We’re going to work hard for the next tournament and see if we can improve upon it.”

Garner had a solid final round, converting 14 pars to finish at five-over on the day and 11-over-par through 54 holes. She finished the tournament tied for 13th place, the best finish of her early collegiate career.

Senior Amanda Keith followed Garner with a strong final round, closing out the final 18 holes with a six-over-par 78. Keith made two birdies on the day and finished the tournament tied for 16th place on the individual leaderboard at 14-over-par.

Juniors Annika Kahaiali’i and Selu Fotu both shot a seven-over 79 during today’s third round. Kahaiali’i made birdies on the opening two holes and finished the tournament with five birdies. She concluded the tournament tied for 31st at 18-over-par. Fotu made 12 pars during the final round and ended the tournament at 19-over-par tied for 36th place.

Sophomore Lauren Atkinson made birdies on holes 2 and 11 and shot a third round 82 (+10). She finished the tournament at 23-over-par to tie for 50th place.

“They’re so supportive down here at Entrada,” Roberts said. “It was great to have a lot of the members out watching and supporting. It means a lot to the girls to have that support. It was a lot of fun to play our home event.”
