BYU gymnastics will return home after a disappointing weekend to compete against in-state rival Southern Utah University on Saturday.

BYU scored a 194.175 last week, a lower score for the team after scoring in the 195’s for two consecutive weeks. The Cougars will need to begin in the 195’s again if they hope to beat the Thunderbirds this Saturday.

Southern Utah University has hit two high season scores in the past three meets, scoring above a 195.500. The Thunderbirds’ scored a season high of 195.700 in their last meet against Sacramento State. BYU has yet to score above a 195.200 this season, which will make this match up a competitive one.

BYU beat SUU with ease by a score of 194.800-194.050 last season. In the teams’ second meeting of the 2012 season, BYU placed second to SUU in a close meet by a score of 194.800-194.050. Close meets over the last few seasons between BYU and SUU fuels this in-state rivalry.

BYU will compete on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse. Live scores and stats will be posted on the Cougars’ website.
