BYU’s men’s rugby team left California with two more wins this week after defeating San Diego State University and the University of California, Los Angeles.

BYU took down SDSU Thrusday afternoon 41–21. The game was physical and exciting as the Cougars pulled ahead early but slowed as the game continued. Ray Forrester proved a sure force for BYU scoring two trys.

“It was a wake up call,” assistant coach Wayne Tarawhiti said. “We are not a 2012 team; we are a 2013 team and we need to stop living off of last year’s season.”

Saturday’s game against UCLA turned out to be a different game. BYU crushed UCLA in an 84–14 victory. Freshmen Jonny Linehan and Luke Mocke proved to have true skill in their positions. Linehan scored the first try of the game in the first six minutes.

“We improved,” head coach David Smyth said in a news release. “We wanted to see some better continuity and ball security today after Thursday night’s game and I think we did that. We still have some ways to go, but the boys are working hard to improve and it showed today.”
