The No. 2 BYU men’s volleyball team hosts No. 13 Lewis University Flyers (0–3) of Romeoville, Illinois this weekend.

The Cougars (2–0) aim to remain unbeaten on the season and at home after beating Hawaii in back-to-back matches last weekend. Pre-season All-Americans Taylor Sander and Russ Lavaja led the way against the Warriors. Sander has recorded 32 kills in the two games this year, while Lavaja has 17 blocks.

Lewis University is led by sophomore outside hitter Geoff Powell, who was named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week last week. Despite the Flyers rough start to the season, Powell has recorded 49 kills in three matches, including a career high 26 against UC San Diego last Friday. The Flyers started off the season ranked fifth, but quickly fell to thirteenth after their 0–3 start.

BYU posts an impressive 10–1 record all-time against Lewis University, including a 7–0 record at home. The Cougars only loss came in 2003 during an unfortunate loss in the NCAA tournament. They avenged that loss a year later in the Final Four of the tournament, going on to win the National Championship against Long Beach State.

The Cougars and Flyers face off in the Smith Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised by BYUtv.
