The Darwin Awards were very popular amongst the younger generations. These awards go to real life people who die in very comical or unusual ways. Now, in a way they have resurfaced through a trending YouTube music video.
The song is called “Dumb Ways to Die.” Little animated characters are depicted in the video, each one trying a different way to die. The video doesn’t necessarily promote suicide, but rather avoiding dangerous activities. Obviously their suggestions are comical, but the message is the same: be safe.
The video is a Public Service Announcement for the Australian Metro, encouraging people to be safe around the trains. The campaign was started after several people were seen trying to cross the train tracks at dangerous times.
