TGR Dream Factory premier huge success

Room 151 of the Tanner Building was packed Saturday night as Freeride Academy, the new skiing and snowboarding club on campus hosted their big event of the semester, the premier of the movie TGR’s Dream Factory.

Freeride Academy had Board of Provo, Niche Snowboards, Skullcandy, Get Air Hang Time, Parks Sportsman, Brighton, SHAKA LAKA, Vitamin Water, Snocru, Cassette, Cinematic Ride co., Jib Kids, Sony, Smotard, Casa, and BYUSA all there sponsoring the event and contributing prizes for the club to raffle away to the packed auditorium. Each company had a table set up before the event to showcase gear before the premier and get students excited about the club and the sports.

Freeride Academy’s premier of TGR’s Dream Factory was sold out.

Tyler Mahoney, the vice president of Freeride Academy talked about how the club was able to get the support of so many companies and how well the event went.

“We talked to a lot of people beforehand and told them what was going on,” Mahoney said. “People were happy to help and get their name out there and we were able to help them. People are just excited about the sport and happy to get involved.”

The main feature of the event, TGR’s Dream Factory was a skiing and snowboarding movie set in Alaska and showed the progression of the skiing and snowboarding sports in Alaska. Today, Alaska is one of the most coveted and exciting spots to ski and snowboarding because the huge, steep and almost isolated peaks–some peaks requiring a plan drop off on the top of the peak to be able to make the run down.

Danny Gessell from Seattle, Wash. talked about how fun the event was and how it feels to be able to participate in Freeride Academy and their events.

“I think that it’s great that so many people could get together to watch skiing and snowboarding, because those are two of the best things on earth in my opinion,” Gessell said. “The movie was awesome and just the whole event in general. I’m proud to be in Freeride Academy and to be able to participate in things like this.”

Josh Boaz, an executive director in BYUSA also attended the premier and talked about the outstanding success of the event and Freeride Academy, which is up to over 400 members now since starting up in October.

“It’s contagious how enthusiastic the Freeride presidency is about the club,” Boaz said. “And to see how this auditorium is full for one of their first events, that growth has been unheard of by any other club. I was extremely excited to see that. They worked extremely hard to get so many people involved in this community and school and had such a positive turnout.”

Michael Didier, president of Freeride Academy was excited to see the fantastic results of all of the hard work that Freeride Academy officers put into making the event happen.

“It’s so great to see this kind of reaction and turnout for the club,” Didier said. “The event was a huge success and we’re excited about what we’ve got planned for the future.”
