Americans voted yesterday for their next president, and Nov. 7 BYU students will vote for the BYU’s next best dance crew.

Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center ballroom, hip hop dance crews from throughout BYU campus will compete for the title of BYU’s best. The top three crews will decided by a panel of judges, and the final winner will be chosen by the audience.

The event is free and open to all. Audience members will even get a chance to show off their own dance moves and win prizes in the mid-competition dance off.

“The purpose of this event is to see who is the best,” said Steven Fortney, the event lead. “We want to give BYU students a chance to showcase their talents. There is some serious talent and BYU especially in dancing.”

Natali Wyson, performer in the crew Rufio, started dancing when she was 12. She loves hip hop and has been a part of the BYU Hip Hop club since her freshman year.

“I have loved hip hop ever since my first class,” said the senior from St. George. “When I got to BYU, I asked around to see if there were any clubs or classes for hip hop that I could get involved in. BYU’s dance department does not actually teach hip hop classes so I was happy to find out that we had a club here for hip hop.”

Wyson said she and the other crew members are looking forward to the opportunity to share their talents and the energy of hip hop with their fellow BYU students.

“We are just so excited to perform our dance,” Wyson said. “We chose the songs for our mix and did all the choreography ourselves, so we are excited to share it with people. The crews always bring their A-game to BYU’s Best Dance Crew and the crowd is always really pumped up and a lot of fun to perform for, so it should be a great night.”

Ana Wolfgram, an event coordinator from Orlando, Fla., said BYU’s Best Dance Crew is a perfect date night and an opportunity for BYU students to have some high-energy fun.

“It’s a great opportunity to see all the hip hop crews and some cool dance moves,” Wolfgram said. “Plus, it’s a free event, so grab a date!”
