A world premiere is happening on BYU campus, and the upcoming Deseret Piano Trio concert will be a must-see event for BYU students.
The concert is ground-breaking in that the trio will be performing the world premiere of “Road Fragments” from Dan Visconti. The work was commissioned by the BYU Barlow Endowment and this will be the first time the piece is performed publicly.
Jeffrey Shumway, piano professor in the BYU School of Music and a member of the trio, said that the commissioned work will showcase the trio’s talent.
“The Dan Visconti commissioned work treats the ensemble in unusual and unique ways, including new approaches to each instrument’s sonority possibilities,” Shumway said.
Other pieces that will be played in the concert include the Piano Trio No. 1 Op. 1 in E Flat Major by Ludwig van Beethoven and the Piano Trio No. 1 Op 8 in C Minor by Dimitri Shostakovich.
Veronica Rosdahl, a senior from Danville, Calif. is majoring in psychology and the concert will be enjoyable to all students, not just music majors.
“I attended the Piano Trio concert in February for a class and was surprised at how enjoyable I thought it was because I don’t know much about music,” Rosdahl said. “I would definitely recommend it to anyone, plus all of the members teach here.”
The concert is free admission and guests are encouraged to arrive early to ensure a seat. Bring a friend, date or roommate on Thursday and enjoy a special treat from The BYU School of Music.
