New York media sources are reporting the death of a 60-year old Utah native who was involved in a traffic accident on the Long Island Expressway early Saturday morning.

Suzanne Nicholson, from Ogden, was on a vacation with her 11-year old grandson, Gabriel Larsen, who was being rewarded by his family with a trip to New York City for his performance in a school competition.

The accident began when the taxi Nicholson was riding in clipped the back of a 1995 Porsche, causing the taxi to roll onto it’s side and careen into the right lane. A garbage truck then slammed into the cab.

Larsen suffered suffered broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, a punctured lung and a concussion, according to family and friends. Nicholson was found shielding her grandson from impact. The taxi driver also died in the accident.
