Bring your yard sale to campus

BYU students will have the opportunity to buy and sell their unwanted belongings at Brigham’s Yard Sale Wednesday on the terrace in the Wilkinson Student Center.

There will be 37 booths available for students for $5 who are interested in selling their items.

Glo Kamae, a member of the student activities board, said Brigham’s Yard Sale is a great opportunity for students to part with their old items and buy fun, “new” ones. Students and community members can take what others call junk and make it their treasure.

Kamae bought a nice work of art for herself at the previous event. She said besides the usual yard sale products, such as board games, clothing, furniture and crafts, people can also find unusual yard sale items like an electric guitar, art and large cadence paintings.

Kamae believes this event is beneficial for students since not all students have front yards.

“Many students live in apartments and don’t have an opportunity to do something like this on their own,” Kamae said. “Last year, all the booths sold out quickly to BYU students.”

In previous years many students and community members have come to Brigham’s Yard Sale, and event planners expect the same success this year.

Jessica Porter, a junior studying English, had the opportunity to participate with Brigham’s Yard Sale in 2011. Last year, Porter went back to her apartment with fun CDs and several shirts. She liked it so much she is attending again this year.

“It was easy, convenient and better than a yard sale because everything was compacted in one area,” Porter said. “It was fun and there were lots of people, which made it very social.”

In order to sell, students must follow four requirements. First, they must be a BYU student or a BYU student’s spouse, second, they must know that weapons, food, drinks and obscene material are not allowed, third,  they should pay for their spot at the Wilkinson Information Desk and fourth, after paying for their spot, they should take receipts to the BYUSA office to reserve their booth.

Sellers are responsible for set up and take down of their booths. They will have one hour to set up and one hour to take down.

The yard sale is 4-7 p.m. on the terrace. More information about Brigham’s Yard Sale can be found at stab.byu.edu under events.
