The No. 4 seeded BYU men's tennis team beat No. 8 San Francisco 4-0 to advance to the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tennis Championship.
BYU's No. 1 doubles team consisting of senior Georgy Batrakov and sophomore Patrick Kawka helped lead BYU to a victory by winning its eighth-straight match with a score of 8-2.
Smith and Sargeant both won their singles matches.
BYU will face No. 1 seed Pepperdine in the semifinals Friday at 9:30 a.m. PDT. No. 2 Santa Clara and No. 3 San Diego will also be competing in the semifinals. The only other time BYU faced Pepperdine this season was April 21, where the Cougars were defeated 6-1.
The winner of this tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The women's team made it to the second round of the tournament, but fell to No. 3 San Diego 4-1.
'The girls fought hard today and the match just didn't fall in our favor,' BYU coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. 'I'm really proud of the team and the season we've had.'
