The first time being in the WCC tournament, the underdogs BYU Cougars women’s basketball team won the championship title over No. 1 ranked Gonzaga!

It was deafly loud in The Orleans arena and emotions ran high today as BYU beat Gonzaga 78-66 in the WCC championship game.

Senior Haley Steed said in an earlier press conference that this final game would be a dog-fight, and dog-fight it was. The game was neck in neck each team wanting it more than the other.

BYU played united and made a great team effort as they came into the lead by 13 points. The Cougars slowed down a bit on offense instead of their usual quick drive. Gonzaga went to the game plan of fouling BYU hoping to gain possession of the ball. But the Cougars came and did what they have wanted to do all season, win the championship title.

This will advance BYU into the NCAA tournament next week.
