During one of the first games of the basketball season, we were attending, supporting the Cougars. As we watched them play, we wanted to know who the new redshirt freshman was. We knew that he was from Las Vegas, one of the last recruits that Coach Rice had scored for us. We guessed that he was No. 20, so we waited for him to score. Throughout the entire game, however, both of us had found it difficult trying to understand the what the announcer was saying. So, when the time came and No. 20 scored, one of us heard his name as “Handsome Wonder.”
Turns out his real name is “Anson Winder,” but we don’t think we misheard the announcer. Handsome Wonder has proven that he does live up to his name, both in his physique and in his skill. We would hope that all fellow Cougar Basketball fans would recognize this and also take up the practice of referring to our No. 20 play by his true name: Handsome Wonder.
